Make a Velcro glove to use all year round! Use hot glue or a few stitches to attach a piece of Velcro (the rough ‘hook’ side) to each finger tip. Use felt to make little turkeys for November, pumpkins for October, etc. The felt objects will stick to the Velcro finger tips for interactive play. You can use rhymes or stories, like the turkey poems or the 'Character Kids,' with your velcro glove. Emphasize the rhyming words and number words.

Character KidsRudy Red- “This is Rudy Red (hold up your finger). He always runs to be at the front of the line. He always wants to sit in the front seat. He interrupts when others are talking. He never even says ‘please’ or ‘thank you’. I hope this ISN’T you. “
Greedy Green- “This is Greedy Green. He wants the biggest piece of candy. He does not like to share his toys. He won’t even get off the swing when he notices someone has been waiting for their turn. He gets upset when he doesn’t get his favorite color sticker or candy from a teacher. He always wants to be first. I hope this isn’t you.”
Pouty Purple- “This is Pouty Purple. She hardly ever smiles. When an adult asks her to pick up her toys or finish her work, she says she doesn’t want to. If she doesn’t get her way she whines and complains. I hope this isn’t you.”
Yelling Yellow- “This is Yelling Yellow. He doesn’t know how to talk softly. She yells in the hallway at school and in the car. When her parents or the teacher is talking, she will try to talk over them. I hope this isn’t you.”
Bully or Bossy Blue (depending on which type of behavior you want to prevent more:)- “This is Bully Blue. He picks on other kids. If someone looks different than him or doesn’t know the answer, he will make fun of them. He tries to scare little kids on the playground. When it’s time to play a game, Bully Blue will leave other kids out. I hope this isn’t you.” OR “This is Bossy Blue. She thinks she should get to be in charge all the time. When she is playing with other children, she tells them what to do the whole time. Bossy Blue will not let other children take a turn being the ‘teacher’ when they play school, or let her friends wear the best dress when playing dress up. I hope this isn’t you.”
As a teacher, I usually just used Smiling Sam as our ‘good’ guy, but here are some other characters you could introduce to your children as well.
Grateful Grey – “This is Grateful Grey. When he is given something he always says ‘thank you’ right away without even being told! He doesn’t care if he gets the biggest piece or his favorite color, because he is just thankful that he was given something. I hope this IS you.”
Honest Orange- “This is Honest Orange. She loves to tell the truth. Even if she does something wrong, she will still tell her parents what really happened. Her parents and teachers trust her because she never tells lies. I hope this is you.”
Smiling Sam (or Smiling Silver if you wanted to stick to the color theme)- “This is Smiling Sam. He has lots of friends because he is always nice to everyone. He uses his manners even when his parents aren’t with him. He lets others go first on the slide. He makes sure no one is left out during play time. When he is asked to clean his room or finish his homework, he does It the first time he is asked. I hope this is you!”
